Empagi za Bunyoro Foundation Uganda (an NGO operating in Mid-Western Uganda Bunyoro Sub region) in partnership with Engabu za Tooro a Youth Platform operating in the heart of Tooro Sub region will be running a two- years project on Empaako naming system in Uganda notably in the Societies of Bunyoro, Tooro, Batagwenda, Banyabindi etc.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization adopted a decision to provide funds for the said project,the decision was adopted during the 12th Session of UNESCO’s Inter-Governmental Committe for safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage that took place at the International Convention Centre Jeju Island in South Korea from 4th-9th December 2017
Empaako is an intangible asset or heritage which ought to be protected and preserved, in the Empaako societies there are procedures followed while naming a newly born child,to this Engabu za Tooro and Empagi za Bunyoro will undertake capacity building to words Empaako naming system. This will further preserve and strengthen our culture.
